even though you said 2 pipe i thought 1 pipe because the valve was at the floor. That is a metering valve and it is set in combination with the vaporstat on the boiler to limit the amount of steam let in to the radiator to the amount that the radiator can condense so the steam all condenses in the radiator and doesn't get in to the returns.

2015年2月21日 · If it is one pipe all the valves should be fully open. Closing them can have adverse effects to the system and the radiator. The valves typically don't seal and will still let some steam in. The problem then is that steam can get in, but the condensate (water) typically can not so the rad starts filling with water.

The valve needs disconnected from the radiator to get it off the pipe, but which thing caused the steam to flow can influence what is going on here. He removed the valve from both the pipe and the radiator.

You must use a steam radiator valve to replace. Others trap condensate and cause water hammer. They come with a matching spud (joined by a union) which goes into the radiator -- and you must use that matching spud and none other, which means you also have to get the old spud out of the radiator, which can be a bit difficult.

The way this works is that as long as the air in the radiator can't escape from the vent, the steam can't get in regardless of whether the supply valve is open or not. Trying to squeeze the best out of a Weil-McLain JB-5 running a 1912 1 pipe system.

2023年10月12日 · Yes I mean radiator vents. The steam system is old and has a combination of vents all throughout the house. The upstairs vents all have golden / brass vents (except for two radiator one I change and the other I am unable to remove). I think I found the steam main vent yesterday as I was removed the panels from the wall.

Overpacking can damage the valve stem or make it hard to turn, and it’s unnecessary. 1-2 wraps provide sufficient material for sealing without excessive friction. It sounds like you’re doing everything correctly!
