Bishoy of Scetis (Coptic: Ⲁⲃⲃⲁ Ⲡⲓϣⲱⲓ Abba Pišoi; Greek: Ὅσιος Παΐσιος ὁ Μέγας; 320 – 417 AD [1]), known in the Coptic Orthodox Church of Alexandria as the Star of the Desert and the Beloved of our Good Savior, was a Coptic Desert Father.

St. Bishoy (320-417 A.D.), the great Egyptian desert father who saw our Lord Jesus Christ and whose incorrupt body is preserved to this day at the Coptic Orthodox monastery bearing his name at Wadi El-Natroun, Egypt, was known for his love, meekness, simplicity, and his extremely ascetic and prayerful life.

The Monastery of Saint Pishoy (also spelled Bishoy, Pshoi, or Bishoi), [1] also known as Saint Pishoy Monastery, [2] is a Coptic Orthodox monastery in Wadi El Natrun, [3] [4] west of the Nile Delta in northern Egypt. [5] It is the largest active monastery in the region and is currently headed by Bishop Anba Agabius. [6]

St. Bishoy, whose memorial is honorable, the star of the desert, departed. He was born around 320 A.D. in a village called Shansa (Shensha or Shesna), in the province of Menoufeya in Egypt. He had six brothers. His mother saw an angel in a vision saying to her, “The Lord says to you, give Me one of your children to serve Me.”

The monastery of Saint Bishoy is located in the wilderness of Wadi El-Natroun, West of the Nile Delta and East of Cairo. It is half way between the cities of Cairo and Alexandria. Bishoy, the youngest of six children in Egypt, was chosen by God to serve Him as a monk. Despite his physical weakness, Bishoy followed his calling and became a devoted monk in the desert of Shehet. Known for his wisdom, strength, and generosity, Bishoy helped others return to the true faith through his teachings.

2010年7月15日 · Saint Pishoy the Great is the founder of the monastery called after his name in Wadi El-Natroun. His name is “Pishoy” in Coptic, the equivalent of “Sammy”, meaning just. In French his name is St. Paisious, and the church mentions him in the liturgy as “The Perfect Man, the Beloved by our Good Savior” (al-ragol al-kamil habeeb mokhalisona al-saleh).

The most eastern monastery in the Wadi El-Natrun of Egypt is Dier Al Anba Bishoy, which was founded by St. Bishoy, who was a disciple of St. Macaruis. St. Macaruis established a nearby monastery. The current St Bishoy Monastrry buildings date from ninth century; still in use today.
