2025年2月24日 · Proceed cautiously on this 25.0-mile out-and-back trail near Dubois, Wyoming. Generally considered a highly challenging route, it should only be attempted by experienced adventurers. This is a popular trail for backpacking, camping, and fishing, but you can still enjoy some solitude during quieter times of day.

Squaretop Mountain is an 11,695-foot-elevation (3,565-meter) mountain summit located in Sublette County of Wyoming, United States. [3] The peak is the emblematic geographical feature of the remote Wind River Range and is set seven miles west of the Continental Divide. [5] .

This monolith looming above the Green River Lakes not far from Pinedale is utterly breathtaking. Sometimes mistaken for Devils Tower, it’s actually much larger and of different geology. Currently it is on the Wyoming license plate. If you backpack the Wind River Highline Trail you’ll pass immediately beneath this incredible peak.

Squaretop Mountain has a largely obscure history of ascents, despite being climbed by the likes of Beckey, Kor, the Lowes, and others. Squaretop's most impressive walls for technical climbing are located on the east, north and west faces.

When you reach the saddle follow the trail around a rock ledge after you get above the rock ledge you will see why its called Squaretop because its just flat on top. continue north until you reach the highest point and then you've made it. There are no permits needed for climbing Squaretop.

Squaretop Mountain is one of the most recognizable peaks in the Wind River Range. This hike takes you to a spectacular viewpoint of the mountain. Although the hike may be a bit on the long-side for some, the terrain is flat and relatively easy walking.

You have two options when starting from Green River Lakes Campground, located 52 miles north of Pinedale, WY, (21 of these miles are on a washboard dirt road).

Visitors have a view of the much-photographed large-granite monolith, Squaretop Mountain (11,695 feet, per Wind River Topographic Map, Earthwalk Press, 1998) from the Green River Lakes. The mountain looms over pristine blue-green lakes.
