Square Pond is located on the border between Shapleigh and Acton, in southern Maine. The lake is spring fed and has few other natural inlets or outlets. Today, most of the lakefront property is owned by summer residents from out of state.

2023年9月4日 · Square Pond is a well-developed and busy lake located in a rural setting in northwestern York County. Its one claim to fame is to have produced the largest brown trout ever caught in Maine, namely a 23+ pound hog dredged up in 1996!

The Square Pond Improvement Association (SPIA), an IRS 501C-3 organization, was formed by Square Pond lake shore property owners in approximately 1958. SPIA is dedicated to protecting the lake environment, especially water quality, shoreline and area wildlife.

Square Pond is a heavily-developed water body and many seasonal and permanent dwellings dot the shoreline. At 910 acres, Square Pond is considered small but it has long been noted as one of Maine’s premier brown trout lakes.

2023年9月5日 · Square Pond is a 910-acre body of water located in the towns of Acton and Shapleigh, York County, Maine (see The Maine Atlas and Gazetteer map 2 B2). The public access point is located along the western shore of the pond, off West Shore Road.

Square Pond, at one time called Crystal Lake, is situated in the town of Shapleigh and Acton, about eight miles from Springvale. It is 522 feet above sea level and covers an area of 910 acres. "The general opinion is that before 1900 Square Pond was considerably larger than it is today.
