Johnson is a good example however Forge is theorized to have been a 1.1, or child of a Spartan, and there are known 1.1’s in ilovebees.

Aug 7, 2015 · Yes, there were two batches of Spartan-Is, though they weren't known as Spartans until Halsey came up with the name for the Spartan-II Program. The first batch was created a long time ago, in the 2300s or 2400s, I believe. The second batch were created in the late 2400s (Halopedia should have more exact dates).

Dec 16, 2021 · Spartan-1’s were not actually called Spartans, they were part of the Orion project, and Sergeant Johnson was actually part of this program, hence his survival against the Flood in the first game. The Spartan-II project was a continuation of that previous work, so they retroactively called Orion members “Spartan-1’s”.

The Spartan-IVs are the newest generation of Spartans, and aren't selected based on any genetic criteria, in fact the only requirement to become a Spartan-IV seems to be loyalty to the UNSC. The Spartan-IVs are selected from either longtime veterans (Buck, Palmer, etc) or new recruits that show promise (Holt, Thorne, etc).
