2013年9月10日 · For instance, perhaps when a Human says "Earth" a Vulcan hears "Earth" but an Andorian hears "Sol III" and a Romulan hears "Human-infested-slime-planet" or whatever Earth is labeled on their star charts.

Many species encountered are presumably disconnected from space politics, so names like Earth, Vulcan, Romulus, or Qo'noS don’t mean anything; so why does no one refer to Earth as Sol III? Because everyone knows where Earth is, and it's generally considered polite to call people (and their homes) whatever they want you to call it.

It is the main populated planet of a solar system. Sol Prime, is Earth or Sol III. Cardassia Prime, is actually Cardassia II. The Prime suffix is often used if the solar system or the star are famous on their own accord so using the system's name would be confusing. Reply reply arrwdodger •

You know, from that old joke about how only cockroaches would survive a nuclear winter.
