2019年11月5日 · That being said, Baumholder itself kinda sucks. It'a kinda in the middle of nowhere, it's very hilly. The barracks are old and kinda suck. You're too close to good stuff (like 30 mins from Rammstein/KTown) for them to ever really give a shit about the post from an improvements/MWR perspective.

I've never been to Camp Smith but I stayed at Schofield Barracks. The place is old and rundown, par for the Army. You hit the high points - traffic, cost of living. Research schools, Hawaii schools are known to be crummy. If you can find a neighborhood with the Japanese influence / population the schools will be better.

Marine Corps Base Hawaii (MCBH) Bellows Air Force Station Springfield ANG Base I've also visited the Pacific Missile Range Facility and several camps/garrisons near the DMZ but I don't think those quite count. Definitely accomplished my goal of traveling the world on the Air Force dime.

The barracks, as a system, is flawed. And the root issue is that we treat the barracks (and forcing soldiers to live in it) as a money-saving measure, rather than a benefit. The military should be paying a living wage to servicemembers, same as any other job.
