Skip Novak was born in 1952. He is best known for his participation in four Whitbread Round the World Yacht Races since 1977. In that year at the age of 25 he navigated the British Cutter Kings Legend to 2nd place. Skippering the Independent Endeavour in 1979, he won the Parmelia Race from Plymouth to Freemantle Australia.

Puerto Williams is the starting point of many of Skip Novak’s expeditions. As well as the place where the owner, the Chilean Nicolás Ibáñez Scott, has developed a sailing school with the ambitious goal of educating children through sailing.

Skip Novak is widely considered the world’s preeminent authority on polar sailing. Skip joined EYOS Expeditions as Director of Sailing Operations.

Skip Novak was just 25 when he navigated the Kings’ Legend to second place in the 1977-78 Whitbread. Back then there was no psychological testing or physical examination. He got the job after a few beers with the skipper Hans Savimaki in Cowes.

Simon Le Bon's Drum famously capsized in the 1985 Fastnet Race but went on to compete in the Whitbread Round the World Race, finishing third.
