Lets not forget that Tanimura took on a whole squad of spec ops in Yakuza 4's finale and he is equal to Akiyama if not a little below him. We've never seen Yagami do anything like that in either Judgement game.
Is Yakuza 4, 5, & 6 worth playing just for Shun Akiyama?

No. They're worth playing because they continue on with Kiryu's story, have lots of good characters (including Akiyama, but many others) and are fun games in their own rights. But especially 3 and 4 are downgrades, so it's ok to take a break before them. And 5 is incredible, but some people bounce off of it because it's a lot.
