Geophysical imaging - Wikipedia
Seismic methods are split up into three different methods, reflection, refraction, and surface wave, based on the physical property of the waves being considered. The reflection method looks at reflected energy from sharp boundaries to determine contrasts in density and velocity.

Introduction to Seismic Imaging
- Stanford University
Seismic imaging is the numerical process of creating an image of the subsurface from reflections recorded at the surface. The recorded data sets are made of an ensemble of time series (seismic traces).
seismic_refraction.jpg | U.S. Geological Survey
A seismic refraction or seismic reflection line is a set of seismographs usually lined up along the earth's surface to record seismic waves generated by an explosion for the purpose of recording reflections and refractions of these waves from velocity discontinuities within the earth.

Seismic Imaging, Overview | SpringerLink
2014年1月1日 · Seismic imaging or tomography (tomo = slice and graph = picture) is a procedure for estimating the earth’s rock parameters from seismic data. These rock parameters can be represented by the spatial distribution of, e.g., P-wave velocity, S-wave velocity, porosity, density, or anisotropic parameters.
