Seal brown is a hair coat color of horses characterized by a near-black body color; with black points, the mane, tail and legs; but also reddish or tan areas around the eyes, muzzle, behind the elbow and in front of the stifle.

2021年5月21日 · As the name suggests, the Seal Brown horses have been blessed with a black base and dark brown coat embellished by lighter tan coloration around the muzzles, eyes, flanks, and other soft areas of the horse’s body. Their head, legs, mane, and tail are usually darker than the rest of the body.

Brown horses can be various shades from light brown to almost completely black. Their bodies may be shaded black and brown or be mostly black (which is often called seal brown). Their soft parts, such as the muzzle and eyebrows, and around the flanks, quarters and girth, are red or golden brown (sometimes called “mealy”).

Seal brown is a dark variation of bay, sometimes appearing to be almost black. However, areas around the muzzle, eye, flanks and other soft parts of the body are lighter coloured, often more yellowish.

The placement of the palest areas of the coat – the muzzle, eyes and undersides – are similar. However, seal brown horses consistently test as bay (A) and not black (a).
