One day some men came to Jesus with a question about taking steps to secure their salvation: “What must we do to do the works God requires?” they asked (John 6:28).

Salvation, within the Christian tradition, is often understood not merely as a singular event but as a comprehensive process that unfolds over the course of a believer's life. This process can be delineated into several key stages: justification, sanctification, and glorification.

In order for us to be forgiven of our sins, and therefore receive eternal life, we must accept the salvation which Christ has made possible. There are five steps which we must take to receive this salvation. First, we must hear the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

God's salvation is clearly revealed to be a process consisting of His calling, justification, sanctification, and glorification. In the Exodus account, justification is exemplified by Israel being called out of slavery, coming under the blood of the lamb on Passover, and passing through the Red Sea in a type of baptism.
