Hackers (more accurately known as scripters) are players who exploit the game in order to gain an advantage over other players. Using multiple flaws/exploits in the game due to its early development state, the goal of most hackers is to ruin the game experience for other players.

When people cheat on official servers, there's no body to respond. From my personal experience, playing a main server for over a year, there's only been a few, and they're banned within a week. Facepunch servers are unplayable.
