2017年9月22日 · TIL that a room known as ‘Room 641A’ in the AT&T telecommunications backbone houses beamsplitters capable of monitoring all the internet traffic in the US. It was largely thought to be a myth until PRISM revealed its existence in 2007.

Room 641A is a telecommunication interception facility operated by AT&T for the U.S. National Security Agency, as part of its warrantless surveillance program as authorized by the Patriot Act. The facility commenced operations in 2003 and its purpose was publicly revealed in 2006.

2013年6月7日 · While none of these recent revelations were really "news", as Room 641A has been known about for nearly a decade, and one can reasonably assume secret agencies are doing things beyond that which is publicly known, the awareness it raises may be useful.
