It is NOT the actual tank, although the terminology can be confusing when compared to something like a windshield washer reservoir. P249E is what sets when the ECM detects it's taking more DEF than it should to meet emissions levels. It simultaneously is testing the catalyst and the DEF system.

Dealer replaced the DEF supply line to the DEF injector, part number 42492083 to correct the low DEF pressure problem due to the line melting on the exhaust manifold from incorrect installation. I'm curious how that could have caused the initial code for the DEF heater control circuit.

Sep 16, 2016 · I last added DEF 11 months ago from the bulk dispenser at a truck stop. Three days ago I checked the DEF level in the DIC and it said OK. My dealership could find no codes so they called TAC who instructed a forced regen and replacement of the DEF tank reservoir. So I now have P/N 23377881 installed and everything seems fine.
