2013年10月29日 · At a funeral I recently attended the program noted that there would be a repass directly following the service. I snickered as I'd thought this was always spelled repast. But later, some noodling around dictionaries and online shows that both spellings can be used. News to me as, I had never seen repass used this way.

But, folk etymologies have a way of taking on a life of their own, and eventually becoming standard English. "Repass" may someday come to mean, specifically, a meal after a funeral, as opposed to the more general "repast". But until then, I would suggest using "repast".

2015年12月17日 · The initial, standard English spelling of this post-funeral gathering is "repast." Many of us in the African American community use an alternate pronunciation and spelling: "repass." Just because this deviates from standard English doesn't mean it's wrong. Being mindful of that in your posts shows RESPECT to our community, especially our elders.
