Using the similar technology of the smaller RD series of two-stroke motorcycles the RD500LC was launched in 1984. Yamaha YZR500. The RD500LC (Race Developed 500CC Liquid Cooled motorcycle) uses a 50-degree, twin- crankshaft V4 engine layout.

The RZ engine has the generous transfer port area, the large-volume crankcase, and the fat, high-suction exhaust pipes of a modern two-stroke racing engine. Good power, good band width, good economy and moderate emissions are the result.

From it's GP-style full fairing to the water-cooled, four-cylinder two-stroke engine nestled in a perimeter-style box section frame, the RZ500 was a dream-come-true for race enthusiasts world wide, and naturally, it became a highly lusted-after machine.

Yamaha RD 500LC / RZV500 / RZ 500 is produced in 1984. Engine is Two stroke, 50°-V4 cylinder, reed valve, YPVS, displacement 499 cc / 30.3 cu-in , produces power 88 hp / 63.9 kW @ 9500 rpm and 6.57 Nm / 6.9 kgf-m @ 8500 rpm. Yamaha RD 500LC / RZV500 / RZ 500 top speed is 148 mph / 238 km/h.

The RZ/RZV/RD 500 was the Kenny ROBERTS GP500 bike replica. The visible differences between the JAPANESE model from the rest of RZ/RD500 are the aluminium frame and it RD350F2 light indicators style. The RZV500R is 7 kg lighter.
