2011年11月22日 · In my neck of the woods, a lot of great cars met their end at the County Fair demo derby, including a really nice 56 or 57 two-tone blue and white Safari wagon that I remember had power everything. My classmate bought it from his folks in the mid 60's, knocked the glass out, did whatever else was required, and ended its life in the second heat.

2006年7月27日 · There are certain items that will interchange between Chevrolet and Pontiac.The chassis are completely different as is the wheelbase;the Chevy having a 115" wheelbase and the short Pontiacs a 122" wheelbase.The Safari is on the short wheelbase and the other Star Chief models on a 124" wheelbase.

2009年10月31日 · You CAN call a 1957 Pontiac 4-dr wagon a Safari...and be right, though. The whole wagon line was referred to as, "Safaris" in 1957. *Chieftain 2 and foor door wagons. *Super Chief 4-dr wagons. *Star Chief 2-dr Custom Safari (like the Nomad), and the 4-dr Custonm Safari (Transcontinental - released 1/2 way through the year.

2012年9月4日 · The ideal rear end would be to find a 57 Pontiac unit.They use the 9.25" ring gear and the axles are considerably larger than the 55-56.It is also the same width.Also the 57 3rd member will NOT fit into the earlier housing;it is quite a bit larger.Good luck finding one as they are very scarce now.

2014年4月23日 · as stated the thin adapter plate for 64-79 pontiac engine is between 50-100 dollar and using org starter bolt make a overdrive easy swap. i dont want to reevent the wheel again. pic is 1967 400 with 700r4 home made adapter and mid engine mount

I have a 1955 Pontiac Chieftan and recently changed out the 287 and stock hydramatic (no park), with a fresh pair of the same units. Nice bone stock combo. 50lb oil pressure on the road. Today I bought a 1957 Pontiac Chieftan/Safari four door wagon. Very clean.

2008年5月5日 · Nice to see the Pontiac motor "spruced up" a bit, too, instead of something foreign in there (SBC?). My Transcontinental was the same pain scheme as your 2 door and my early production 2 door (body #17, probably pre-production) was Silver Beige with a Charcoal Grey top and insert.

2017年2月6日 · I have two 55 Safari's & have found out that most of the parts are unique to the Pontiac (not shared w Chevy) &/or 1 year only items. That can make these cars a bit pricey to restore. 2009年10月14日 · The Pontiac frame is completely different, the floors are different, they share little to nothing except some of the glass - they tell me the roofs are even different. I don't know why you'd want to hack up a Safari for a gasser, usually to go fast guys started with a small car and added a big motor. A Safari's not that small.

2016年4月15日 · This trim is off a 1955 Pontiac Safari Station Wagon-2 Door Model. The front pieces fir the Merc Door great except for the trimming I did. I find the quote above about filling them in with lead and bending them, that would be tough as these are Stainless but it may have been what they did back in the day.
