A generation (Japanese: 世代 (せだい) generation) is a grouping of the Pokémon games that separates them based on the Pokémon they include. In each generation, a new region and set of Pokémon that did not exist in the previous generation are introduced.

This is a list of Pokémon in the order dictated by the National Pokédex, meaning that Pokémon from the Kanto region will appear first, followed by those from Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh, Unova, Kalos, Alola, Galar, Hisui, and Paldea.

There are 1025 known species of Pokémon, introduced across nine generations. Each generation, starting with 151 Pokémon in the first, has added new species. Pokémon are captured by weakening them and storing them in a Poké Ball.

There are currently nine generations, and they are labeled numerically by a roman numeral. Overall, generations allow for Pokémon media with uniform characteristics to be separated into groups.
