pkgsrc is a framework for managing third-party software on UNIX-like systems, currently containing over 26,000 packages. It is the default package manager of NetBSD and SmartOS , and can be used to enable freely available software to be built easily on a large number of other UNIX-like platforms.

pkgsrcCon is the annual technical conference for people working on pkgsrc, a framework for building over 19,000 open source software packages. pkgsrc is the native package manager on NetBSD, SmartOS and Minix, and is portable across many different operating systems including Linux and Mac OS X.

If you haven't read it yet, take a look at the pkgsrc Guide (also in /usr/pkgsrc/doc/pkgsrc.txt). Create a package. Test it with pkglint -- not all reported warnings and errors need to be fixed, but you should try to at least understand the reported ones.

pkgsrc has a longstanding practice of creating quarterly stable branches with names like pkgsrc-2020Q1 every quarter. There has typically been a freeze during the last 2 weeks of the quarter, and then a new branch is created. This wiki page outlines details and rationale around the stable branch process.
