- Silas was put into prison together with Paul in Philippi during the mission journey. (Acts 16:23-25) - Timothy was converted during Paul’s 1st mission journey in Lystra. He called him “my true son in the faith” (1Ti 1:2) He joined Paul for his 2ND missionary journey.
Paul and Silas traveled first through Syria and then through Cilicia until they reached Galatia. It was in Lystra of that region that Timothy joined Paul in his journey. As Paul continued, he wanted to preach the gospel to the north in Asia and Bithynia, but the Holy Spirit prohibited him.
Paul, Silas, and Timothy are going to show us how God feels about us, even in our toughest times. We learn from today’s passage in 2 Thessalonians that it is in our deepest pain and struggles that God shows Himself faithful and strong.
The unbelieving Jews were jealous and they incited a mob to attack the home that had welcomed Paul. So the church of Thessalonica was born in the midst of violence. Paul had to leave town quickly, before grounding the new believers adequately in the word of God. He went to Berea, Athens and then to Corinth, where he was joined by Timothy and Silas.
From Galatia, Paul and Silas were breaking new ground and again the Holy Spirit supplied direct guidance (16:6-10). Although they were prevented from going into the province of Asia and had to cross instead to the continent of Europe, in Philippi the first person to respond to the gospel was a trader from Thyatira in Asia (16:14).
Silas – Also called Silvanus; one of the leaders in the church at Jerusalem and Paul's companion on his second missionary journey; mentioned, along with Timothy, as coauthor of Paul letters to the Thessalonians

When we lay down our complaints and approach God with thanksgiving and praise, we will encounter His abundant grace.
Praising God is proclaiming His greatness. His greatness never changes – even when our circumstances do. When you are in a difficult situation and you don’t feel like praising God that is the PERFECT time to do it! Our praise invites God’s power into our lives. Paul, Silas (Silvanus) and Timothy wrote this letter to believers in Thessalonica, apparently to address their concerns about the second coming of Jesus and also those who persecute their faith (chapter one) those who give false teaching (chapter two) and those who are idle and not contribute to the community (chapter three).
