MRI studies of the brain reveal structural changes in the same brain regions that are believed to affect overall functioning in patients with schizophrenia. The pathophysiology of schizophrenia is complex, and it has been studied for years with many factors yet to be discovered.

In this review we will study the etiology, pathophysiology, and management of schizophrenia. We conducted this review using a comprehensive search of MEDLINE, PubMed, and EMBASE, January 1987, through March 2017.
