Panna Maria, Texas is the oldest permanent Polish settlement in the United States. Families from Silesia, Poland were invited by Fr. Leopold Moczygemba to settle this historic area in 1854.

The Panna Maria Historical Society was founded in 1966 to ensure historical preservation and the education of current and future generations in the history of Panna Maria and Polish migration, culture and heritage.

1929 Panna Maria celebrated the 75th anniversary of its founding. 1936 State of Texas recogonized Panna Maria as the oldest Polish settlement in Texas. 1939-1945 WWII was fought. Many courageous young men from Panna Maria honorably served their country. 1954 Panna Maria celebrated its Centennial Anniversary.
