I had a moose buggy with a PTO winch that saw a lot of use for 17 years, in that period of time there were only a half dozen times when the down sides were really a problem. My winch was a 10,000 lb Ramsey and would probably out pull an 8274 with the engine at idle.

2006年8月30日 · I made a logging winch out of a Ramsey 9000 lb drum PTO winch and it didn't work out. That winch was not up to the punishment of tractor logging. I tore up 2, and spent nearly $1,000 and coutless hours welding, before giving up on this idea. Problem #1 -- The winch 0.75" drive shaft is too light for this kind of work.

2002年4月7日 · A regular PTO winch is supported by bearings on both ends of the drum. A capstan winch on only one end. A drive meant for a capstan may have a different bearing system to better support the capstan. The gear would need bearings on both sides to support the pull. Maybe an adaptation of a marine capstan winch.

2004年6月2日 · A PTO winch isn't as effective for this kind of a situation. Ideally you just apply power to the tires without spinning them and keep tension with the winch, with a PTO as soon as you move you have taken tension off of the cable and you have to spin the tires to take up the slack or put the t-case back in neutral.
