He needs to be started on an antibiotic like cipro for 4-6 weeks to fight the infection and then he needs to have his PSA rechecked after the infection is treated. Most rapid rises of PSA are due to low grade prostate infections and not prostate cancer. 4 weeks after the antibiotic, the PSA should be repeated.
