Nieuport, later Nieuport-Delage, was a French aeroplane company that primarily built racing aircraft before World War I and fighter aircraft during World War I and between the wars.

The Nieuport 17 C.1 (or Nieuport XVII C.1 in contemporary sources) is a French sesquiplane fighter designed and manufactured by the Nieuport company during World War I. An improvement over the Nieuport 11, it was a little larger than earlier Nieuports and better adapted to the more powerful engine than the interim Nieuport 16.

But when it became clear that planes were going to play an important role in the fighting, Nieuport’s engineers, including designer Gustave Delage, turned their hands to military aircraft.

2012年6月6日 · Appearing on the Western Front on March 1916, the Nieuport 17 was a progressive development of the Nieuport 11 and Nieuport 16 single-seaters, and was to become the most successful and famous of all the Nieuport fighters to serve in the 1914-18 war.

2023年1月11日 · Built in France in 1918, the Nieuport—serial number 512—had not seen combat in World War I but it had served with the United States Army Air Service (USAS) after the Armistice and appeared in several Hollywood war films following its retirement from service.
