The Nevi'im (/ n ə v i ˈ iː m, n ə ˈ v iː ɪ m /; [1] Hebrew: נְבִיאִים Nəvīʾīm, Tiberian: Năḇīʾīm 'Prophets', lit. ' spokespersons ') [2] is the second major division of the Hebrew Bible (the Tanakh), lying between the Torah (lit. ' instruction ') and Ketuvim (lit. ' writings '). The Nevi'im are divided into two groups.

Neviʾim, the second division of the Hebrew Bible, or Old Testament, the other two being the Torah (the Law) and the Ketuvim (the Writings, or the Hagiographa).

The Nevi'im, or Hebrew prophetical books, are subdivided into two major parts: four books of the "Former" prophets and 14 books of the "Latter" prophets. Together these books trace Jewish history from the time of Moses' death until the destruction of the First Temple and the subsequent exile of the southern kingdom to Babylonia.

Nevi’im (Prophets) presents Israel’s history as a nation on its land. The Israelites conquer and settle; they are beset by local enemies and eventually by imperial powers. Political and prophetic leaders vie for hearts; the supporters of God ‘s covenant do battle against the paganism of neighboring groups and among the Israelites themselves.

The Hebrew canon of the section of the Old Testament known as the Nevi’im, or the Prophets, is divided into two sections: the Former Prophets and the Latter Prophets. The Former Prophets contains four historical books—Joshua, Judges, Samuel, and Kings.

The Neviim is comprised of two subsections, the Former Prophets or Neviim Rishonim [נביאים ראשונים]; and the Latter Prophets or Neviim Aharonim [נביאים אחרונים].
