If you doing the NP242, you can find it in more commonly in the 1980's Cherokee, or less common in 1993 Grand Cherokee, as it was only sold as an option. The easiest way of telling if the vehicle has one, is by looking at the shifter bezel.

Jan 12, 2011 · Start with the simplest thing: try adjusting the tcase shifter linkage. This always falls out of proper adjustment, and can make shifting the NP242 in particular, difficult. If you can't adjust the linkage for whatever reason, disconnect it at the tab on the tcase, and manually shift the tcase. See if it pops into all settings this way.

Apr 20, 2014 · Greetings! This is a write up of the procedure to install a Hack n Tap Slip Yoke Eliminator (SYE) on an NP242 Transfer case. The patient is a 1996 XJ Cherokee with a 4.0 engine, AW4 transmission and an NP 242 Transfer case. I put a 3" lift on it and have a 3 degree pinion shim on the rear.

Oct 21, 2020 · I have an NP242 and an 8.25" rear diff. I did this with only 3.5" of lift. It eliminates drive line vibrations and you use the same drive shaft, front or rear. it also eliminates the slip yoke on the tcase output, hence the name.
