I have heard and read that the bearing sets are smaller and that the axles are forged but not precision ground. The tires will have something like "For Mobile Home Use Only" and will get you in trouble on the road both performance and the law wise.

2008年8月31日 · Some MH axles are better than others. I built my trailer 20 years ago using the axles from a 1962 vintage mobile home. If I recall the mobile home weighed somewhere around 9600 lbs. The axles are 3" sq. solid and still running their original bearings. A large threaded hex cap on the hubs makes it easy to clean and inspect the bearings.

2018年4月14日 · I run a trailer with 8X14.5 tires. Never had an issue. Mine are factory Dayton/Fayette axles with bolt on backing plates. I run G rated tires. The axles to avoid are the true mobile home axles with welded on backing plates. You cannot replace the brakes. Plus they are usually 10 feet wide and will have been shortened for use on a normal trailer.

They used up to a 16 ply low profile tire and special 14 1/2" rims with a extra large bolt pattern, rating at up to 7,000 per axle. The trailer delivery service used their own tires-rims and removed them after the installation.

The seller was a retired trailer builder and identified the axles under my trailer as 6K Dexters made 30+ years ago. The axles I bought from him are nearly identical only they are 8 lug. I got a bunch of new parts for the axles like backing plates, hubs, etc from him.
