The MK3A2 may be issued fuzed with or without safety clips, or unfuzed. The grenade body is a cylinder made of pressed fiber and contains high explosive TNT. Hand grenade fuzes M206A1 or M206A2 are pyrotechnic delay detonating fuzes.

III A2 variant grenades had waterproof asphalt-inpregnated fiberboard bodies, including the top and bottom sides (MK. III and MK. III A1 had metal tops and bottoms), containing 8 ounces (about 0.23 kilograms) of TNT. During the Pacific War, these grenades were often used to clear bunkers and other small structures.
