Ludhiana (Punjabi: ludhiāṇā , pronounced [lʊ́(d̪)tɪ̀ɪˈäːɳäː]) is the most populous city in the Indian state of Punjab. [9] The city has an estimated population of 1,618,879 as of the 2011 census and distributed over 159.37 km 2 (61.53 sq mi), [6] making Ludhiana the most densely populated urban centre in the state. [10]

Ludhiana city was founded in the time of Lodhi dynasty which ruled in Delhi from 1451-1526 A.D. The legend goes that two Lodhi Chief Yusaf Khan and Nihand Khan were deputed by Sikandar Lodhi (1489-1517 A.D.) to restore order in this region.
