The Lok Ayukta under the Kerala Lok Ayukta Act, 1999 (Act 8 of 1999) has been constituted for investigating into the allegations of corruption and mal-administration against public servants and for the speedy redressal of grievances of the public.

(1) This Act may be called the Kerala Lok Ayukta Act, 1999. (2) It shall be deemed to have come into force on the 15th day of November, 1998.

The Lok Ayukta and Upa Lok Ayuktas are appointed on the advice of the Chief Minister in consultation with the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly and the Leader of the Opposition. Their term of appointment is five years.

(a) ‘ Act’ means the Kerala Lok Ayukta Act, 1999 (8 of 1999) (b) ‘Government’ means Government of Kerala and includes any officer of Government of Kerala who is a party to the proceedings before the Lok Ayukta/Upa Lok Ayukta.

The Lok Ayukta shall be entitled for an annual pension at the rate of Rs. 14, 630 for one completed year of service as Lok Ayukta and the Upa Lok Ayukta shall be entitled for an annual pension @ Rs. 11,150 for one completed year of service as Upa Lok Ayukta.
