2013年6月12日 · First time I needed light signals for real (Fullerton CA, 1969, Narco Mark 12 receiver quit), I got a red light. I broke out of the pattern, re-entered on the 45 and called downwind with the transmitter I assumed was still working.

2020年4月9日 · I’ve heard the light gun signals are barely visible. I'm an old fart having learned to fly in the mid 50's. I trained at a towered airport in planes without electrical systems. No problem at all with light signals back then. Of course the guys in the tower knew where to point it, and the guy in the plane knew where to look.

2005年5月31日 · Light gun signals were common through the 50's. They got less common as airplanes became equipped with Super-Homers and such. My first radio had two crystals for transmit 122.8 and the local jetport on 126.45 and a hand crank for roughly tuning the receiver - very roughly. Light guns were visible in sunlight as long as you were paying attention.

2008年6月6日 · The light gun restriction just means that you cannot accept light guns as a means of communicating. That said, if you had to do this because you lost your radio, that could be an emergency and depending on the circumstances doing it anyhow might be the best decision.

2016年11月20日 · I’m sure the day I get that light gun signal, it will be extreme turbulence and I’ll be trying to find the chart I have somewhere with the light gun signals while the plane is bouncing around. LOL -Yep, those are prerequisite conditions. If you use a kneeboard, many have that info printed on them.

2021年3月2日 · I have VERY defective color vision. I took the light gun test at KSJC back in 1989. Myself and one other candidate were presented with different colored signals. In some instances we gave different answers. We both passed. Go figure. Having said all this, my colorblindness has never affected my flying, even at night.

2013年7月8日 · This happened to me on one of my first solo flights back into the KSYR class C. Got to use light signals (and for taxi as well). I was pretty psyched actually since I had just memorized all of that and felt reasonably secure in that they had me on radar already (although no transponder once things went south).

2012年10月9日 · Also, I tried getting some practice light gun signals from a tower today. The red was really obvious, but I had a lot of trouble distinguishing between the green and white lights. I have a feeling it doesn't even have to do with colorblindness, I'm just not used to distinguishing shades of green as light as those from white.
