ISO 9001 is a globally recognized standard for quality management. It helps organizations of all sizes and sectors to improve their performance, meet customer expectations and demonstrate their commitment to quality. Its requirements define how to establish, implement, maintain, and continually improve a quality management system (QMS).

The procedures used to develop this document and those intended for its further maintenance are described in the ISO/IEC Directives, Part 1. In particular, the different approval criteria needed for the different types of ISO document should be noted.

ISO confirms no change to ISO 9001. Based on the last ISO TC 176 SC2 ballot, there was a majority members in the favor of revising the document, based on the draft design specification. This is a change from the earlier decision of not to revise the standard. This means the newer version of ISO 9001 would come sooner than 2030 predicted earlier.
