LAFAYETTE FIRE DEPARTMENT Robert P. Benoit, Director of Fire Department (1993 - Present) In August 1993, Robert P. Benoit was appointed Fire Chief of the City of Lafayette Fire Department becoming the first black Fire Chief in its history.

The Lafayette Fire Department has received a grant funded by FEMA's Fire Prevention and Safety Grant to install suitable early warning devices in homes for people who are deaf or hard of hearing.
