The Town of Kirkwood is located in the central part of Broome County, west of the towns of Colesville and Windsor, south of the Town of Fenton and east of the towns of Conklin and Dickinson and the City of Binghamton.

The Town of Kirkwood lies on the Northern side of the Susquehanna River and extends from the Pennsylvania border to the city limits of Binghamton, NY. Although the town was formed in 1859, its history can be traced to its earlier Native American inhabitants whose artifacts can still be found along the river's banks and flatlands.

The Historian’s Office acquires, preserves and makes available for public use material relating to Kirkwood’s History. Oral histories, photographs, diary translations, physical artifacts, historical records, cemetery records, and family histories are some of the materials actively pursued for safekeeping and sharing.

The Supervisor in the Town of Kirkwood has many responsibilities and duties. The Supervisor is the treasurer of the town, responsible for presenting an annual budget to the Town Board and the taxpayers within the town.

The Kirkwood Town Board works to provide the best for the Town of Kirkwood. Currently they are working on: The Extension of the Public Water and Sewer Facilities; Exploring additional affordable Senior Housing; Maintaining and assuring the quality of Kirkwood’s Youth Programs; Developing a Senior Citizen Center; Who are we?

The Kirkwood Historical Society meets on the 2nd Tuesday of the month from April - December. Meetings take place in the basement community room of the schoolhouse starting at 5:30 p.m. The public is welcome and encouraged to attend any of the regular meetings and events.

The Town of Kirkwood maintains high expectations when dealing with building codes and other ordinance enforcement. The main duty of the Town Building and Code Enforcement Office is to make sure that all residents and future residents of the Town are adhering to the rules set forth by both state and town law.
