The National Juneteenth Museum connects the stories of freedom of the enslaved to modern-day liberation in daily pursuit of equity and justice.

From the early pioneers and hidden figures of the Juneteenth movement to modern-day advocates, the museum showcases the powerful impact of community and faith. Visitors are invited to reflect on the ongoing quest for equity and justice, gaining tools and inspiration to carry forward the legacy of Juneteenth in their own lives.

Learn about the roots of Juneteenth with a special story time for families. Afterwards, explore an exhibit of historical artifacts provided by the National Juneteenth Museum. We will read three books together and sing songs. The program will be presented in English and Spanish by staff from the Fort Worth History Center and La Gran Biblioteca.

On June 19, 1865, Union Major-General Gordon Granger issued General Order #3 in Galveston announcing freedom from slavery in Texas, one of the last places to receive the news.
