Moorish Science Temple founder Drew Ali teaches that Ireland was once part of a Moorish empire, and that the Irish are a Moorish people. Perhaps there is a common root between the "moor" sound in Fomor and the word Moor?

According to Gwyn Jones (perhaps the world's leading authority on the subject), to the Welsh chroniclers, "The Danes coming in by way of England and the Norwegians by way of Ireland were pretty well all black: Black Gentiles, Black Norsemen, Black Host." There is also strong reason to suggest an African presence in ancient Ireland.

Since St. Maurice is Negroid in appearance, the claims of Negroid Moors don't seem like a fiction anymore. Shakespeare protrayed the Moors as African or Negroid (Wooly Hair, Black Skin, Wide noses, High cheek bones, etc). Napolean stated, "Africa begins at the Pyrenees," since the Negroid Moors were present at Southern France.

Any Negroid mixture, though, must be small and probably came from the slaves (about 40,000) who lived in the British Isles in the early 18th century. When slavery was ended in the UK (consisting then of Ireland, Scotland, Wales, and England) these 40,000 people of African descent became absorbed in the population and essentially disappeared.
