    1. Measure the length and width of the roof surface to determine how many rolls of roofing to buy.
    2. Unroll the roofing material on the ground to relax some of the curl out of it.
    3. Install drip-edge flashings, roofing felt, and WSU if needed.
    4. Position the first course so it overhangs the drip edges by about ¼ inch and roll it out.
    5. The next sheet overlaps the first by 4 inches or enough to cover the area that is bare of mineral surfacing.
    6. Apply roofing cement to the roof.
    7. Cut the rolled roofing to the right size using a razor knife.
    8. Place the first layer of rolled roofing on the roof.
    9. Hammer nails into the rolled roofing to secure it.
