You are now at #1 TDC on the compression stroke and ready to install the distributor. If the 1st valve (exhaust) is moving instead, rotate the engine a full revolution and then the intake will cycle. When it is installed correctly the pointer on the rotor will be lined up with the 6 cast into the distributor.

Guide the distributor into the engine. Align the distributor hold-down base's hole over the intake manifold's mounting hole. As the distributor is installed, observe the rotor moving in a clockwise direction of about 42 degrees. Once the distributor is completely seated, the rotor segment should be aligned with the mark on the distributor base (1).

It may be necessary to lift the distributor and turn the rotor slightly to properly align the gears and the oil pump driveshaft. With the marks aligned, install the hold-down clamp, washer and bolt. Tighten the bolt to 20 ft. lbs. (27 Nm). Install and secure the distributor cap. Connect the spark plug coil wires as noted during removal.
