Calocedrus decurrens, with the common names incense cedar[3] and California incense cedar[4] (syn. Libocedrus decurrens Torr.), is a species of coniferous tree native to western North America. It is the most widely known species in the genus, and is often simply called incense cedar without the regional qualifier. [5][6][7]

The Burseraceae are also known as the torchwood family, [2] the frankincense and myrrh family, or simply the incense tree family. The family includes both trees and shrubs; its species are native to tropical regions of Africa, Asia, Australasia, and the Americas.

As a Northwest native, incense cedar grows from the tip of southern California all the way up to the Canadian border, but does best in the Cascade Mountains. It is prized for its tall majestic, and narrow shaped form.
