Husayn ibn Ali (Arabic: الحسين بن علي, romanized: al-Ḥusayn ibn ʿAlī; 11 January 626 – 10 October 680) was a social, political and religious leader.

Just over 50 years of the death of Muhammad (the last Prophet of Islam), the Muslim rulership was sliding into corruption under the tyrant Yazid, from the Ummayad family. Hussain the son of Ali and the grandson of Muhammad took a stand against Yazid’s evil rule.

Imam Hossein (AS) was born on the 3rd of Sha’ban in the 4th year of Hijri in Medina. He was the second child of Imam Ali (AS) and Lady Fatimah (SA) after Imam Hasan (AS), and the second grandchild of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

Imam Husayn (S) is the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (S) and the son of both Imam Ali (A) and Lady Fatimah (A). Prophet Muhammad (S) adored him and credited him with a number of important merits during his life.
