HyFoSy is a modification of tubal contrast sonography that uses foam created from diluted ExEm ® gel as a hyperechogenic contrast agent. A review of the available literature suggests that HyFoSy has comparable accuracy to that of HSG with the advantages of less pain and shorter procedure time.

Hysterosalpingo-contrast sonography (HyCoSy) has been described as reliable, well tolerated and safe compared to other modalities such as laparoscopy and a dye test or hysterosalpingography. Limited availability of the previously used contrast has led to the introduction of a foam contrast agent as an alternative.
