Chuck was Howard's father's partner, Howard has probably known Chuck since Howard was a child. Howard respects and looks up to Chuck. He almost certainly feels he has a much stronger responsibility and loyalty to Chuck. Howard taking the blame for Jimmy not being given a job at HHM is something he did for Chuck.

I am rewatching the series and I originally hated Howard Hamlin. I thought he was an asshole to Jimmy and self-righteous. But rewatching the series I have the utmost compassion for him throughout the first 4 seasons (haven’t gotten to 5 yet).

Howard chose not to leave when he was told multiple times to leave. Lalo was a psychotic ticking murdering bomb on the loose, wanted both by police and his enemies. He murdered completely innocent people like that mexican couple just because they saw his face. There is no way he would had let Howard to just leave.

Same applies to Game of Thrones, Breaking Bad, so on. But Howard Hamlin, random lawyer guy living in lawyer land, with like, marital problems and groceries to buy in the morning and shit, getting fucking shot and killed instantly in front of me by a drug dealing psychopath for no reason, made my jaw DROP.

After being persuaded to become a lawyer by his father and being mentored through law school by Chuck, Howard joined the firm — changing the name to Hamlin, Hamlin & McGill — and it eventually became one of the most successful law firms in Albuquerque.

Poor Howard knew which side his bread was buttered on, and I don't think being at HHM was a 'fuck you, I'm awesome and the boss' to the world, I think he was probably scared to go out there just as Howard Hamlin.

Oct 8, 2020 · All through the show, this thread has been weaving its way to where it is now, much like the cartel and Jimmy/Kim storylines finally merging in this season: it seems that that was only a teaser for the real convergence in season 6, when the seemingly unrelated Howard Hamlin gets thrown into the main mix as well.
