House of Ruth provides housing and supportive services to women at residential programs located in Washington, D.C. All were unhoused and nearly all are survivors of domestic violence. Staff is on-site around the clock to assist the women and ensure their safety while creating a warm, nurturing environment.

House of Ruth is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in Washington, D.C. We believe that everyone deserves to live a life free from violence and fear. In 1976, we began as a housing-focused organization. Over the years, we came to understand the variety of needs accompanying houselessness and domestic violence.

House of Ruth’s professional counselors are extensively trained in trauma-related therapy and are committed to providing compassionate, nonjudgmental care. Our aim is to help participants determine their options and achieve safe, stable lives free from violence and other forms of abuse, in a confidential and supportive environment.
