Hemochromatosis is known to associate a high risk for osteoporosis, especially in the C282Y homozygous patients, in whom there have been described low‐bone mass, altered microarchitecture and biomechanics and increased incidence of fractures.

Genetic hemochromatosis is characterized by an increased and excessive intestinal dietary iron uptake, of both nonheme and heme iron [1, 7 - 9], which over the years can lead to accumulation of excess iron in the body and various organs causing clinical symptoms of iron overload.
