Haemoglobin J-Baltimore can be detected by HbA1c ... - PubMed
Recently, two publications reported different conclusions on accuracy of HbA (1c) value using capillary electrophoresis method in presence of haemoglobin J-Baltimore (HbJ). Here we describe the fortuitous detection of unknown HbJ using capillary …

Effects of hemoglobin variants HbJ Bangkok, HbE ... - Wiley Online …
Apr 13, 2017 · We performed hemoglobin capillary (Hb) electrophoresis using whole-blood samples. We also sequenced the genes encoding Hb using dideoxy-mediated chain termination and analyzed HbA1c using borate affinity HPLC (BA-HPLC) and turbidimetric inhibition immunoassay (TINIA). Two patients had the HbJ Bangkok variant.
Effects of hemoglobin variants HbJ Bangkok, HbE, HbG Taipei
Conclusions: HbJ Bangkok, HbE, HbG Taipei Hb, and α-thalassemia HbH disease cause varying degrees of interference with the analysis of HbA1c using IE-HPLC. In these patients, we suggest using methods free from such interference for the analysis of HbA1c and other indicators to monitor blood glucose levels.

Ancestral β-globin gene haplotypes modify β-thalassemia severity …
Dec 10, 2024 · Mutations in the HBB gene cause β-thalassemia by inhibiting the production of the β-globin subunit of adult hemoglobin (HbA, α2β2). 1 Consequently, excess free α-globin forms cytotoxic precipitates that cause maturation delay and apoptosis of erythroid precursors (ineffective erythropoiesis [IE]) and shortened lifespan of circulating red blood c...
Haemoglobin H (HbH) Disease - LearnHaem | Haematology Made Simple
HbH disease is characterised by a moderate anaemia (Hb typically ~80g/L, but can range from 60-100g/L). Haemolytic episodes are triggered by infections, especially parvovirus B19 infection and exposure to oxidant drugs. Pregnancy exacerbates the anaemia due to a dilutional effect.
