The National School Lunch Program is a federally assisted meal program in public and nonprofit private schools and residential child care institutions. It provides nutritionally balanced, low-cost or free lunches to children each school day.

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) was established to provide nutritionally balanced school lunch meals at a low cost to children each school day. Eligible children may receive meals at a free or reduced price. The program reimburses schools with federally-funded dollars for meals that comply with the USDA’s nutrition standards.

Parents and guardians of public school students will now be able to conveniently manage, monitor and pay for their child's school meal account online and through a mobile app. The Hawaii State Department of Education (HIDOE) launched the online school lunch payment system, EZMealApp on Monday, May 7, 2018.

This summer, a new program is providing weekly breakfast and lunch meal kits for children 18 and under who live in selected rural communities from now until July 31. Each box contains fresh veggies, fruits, meat and grains that meet USDA meal requirements.
