The Upholder/Victoria-class submarines, also known as the Type 2400 (due to their displacement of 2,400 tonnes), are a class of diesel-electric submarines built in the United Kingdom in the 1980s to supplement the nuclear submarines in the Submarine Service of the British Royal Navy.

Under the command of Lt.Cdr. Malcolm David Wanklyn, (VC, DSO, RN), HMS Upholder was the most successful of all British submarines. She made 25 war patrols while based with the 10th Submarine Flotilla at Malta.

HMS UPHOLDER was the highest scoring British submarine of World War 2, sinking a total of 133,940 tons of enemy shipping. Lt Cdr Wanklyn had been awarded the Victoria Cross. UPHOLDER was lost with all hands.

2023年9月29日 · HMS Upholder was a British U-class submarine. Constructed by Vickers-Armstrong at Barrow-in-Furness, HMS Upholder was laid down on 30th October 1939, launched on 8th July 1940, and commissioned on 31st October of that same year.

HMS Upholder was the first of an entirely new class of diesel-electric submarine to be built for the Royal Navy. It was intended that the Upholder Class would be in service with the RN well into the next century, gradually replacing their predecessors, the Oberon Class.

One of first Group of submarines of the Class ordered in 1939 and identified by name on launch in 1940. After trials and working-up in Home waters at the end of 1940 this submarine took passage to join the 10th Submarine Flotilla in Malta on 10th December.
