Primary care service at the UHS is provided by a team of highly qualified and experienced family physicians. When indicated, referral will be made to Government Specialist Clinic or to an approved panel of private consultants, depending on the patient’s eligibility. Appointments. Health Service (UHS). Eligibility and Coverage. The following three outside panel doctors are appointed to provide general medical consultation to University appointees: (a) UMP Professional Management Ltd. (UMP); (b) Healthcare Medical & Paramedical Services Operations (HK) Ltd. (HC); and (c) Quality HealthCare Medical Services Ltd. (QHMS).

For students, there are many levels of medical benefits. Some students may not be eligible for UHS services. The eligibility of students is not known before registration. Once they have completed their registration at the University, students will receive a university card with a number. The level of medical benefit will be known by then.

The main medical benefits provided for HKU staff is the University Staff Medical Benefits Scheme (in-house scheme). Over the years, additional medical plans have been introduced, such as voluntary medical insurance plans and self-pay plans.
